About Soft and Sacred

Welcome to Soft and Sacred. I am a working, job-seeking, God-seeking, crafting mom of toddler. The creation and execution of this blog is my attempt to bring some order to the chaos that is my life and to bring some meaning to the many acts of creation I am able to participate in.

About the Title: Soft and Sacred
Soft and Sacred is a name I've been rolling around in my head for a while, as I think about what I would name my Etsy shop if I had the time and were brave enough to create one. The title pays homage to my two major crafting forms: crochet and prayer beads. While I do not limit myself to yarn and beads, I think the dual descriptors soft and sacred apply to most of my creative endeavors.

About the Concept: Thing a Day
Inspired by Jonathan Coulton's Thing a Week experiement, I am attempting to create one "thing" -- large or small -- each day for an as yet unnamed amount of time. I have the goal of a year in mind, but life with a toddler has taught me to set shorter goals, so for now, it's just a thing a day for as long as I can manage it. In addition to crafty things I'll make myself, I'm going to count as a creative day any day I spend time making something with my daughter -- even if she is the primary creator. I hope she'll learn the joy of creation and the thrill of a project completed.

About the Subtitle: A Search for God
As I mentioned, I am a God-seeker. As I work out for myself what form of a 'god' I believe in, where I can best commune with that 'god,' and how to reconcile disillusionment with hope, I am hoping that the daily act of creation can become for me a form of spiritual practice. I need a bit of grounding and silence in my life in order to make sense of this thing called faith. At first my quest for creation will be mostly just that, but I hope in time I'll develop a routine and a means for relating creation to the soul work I'm doing simultaneously.

About the Logo
I created this logo specifically for this blog project; though, if I begin to sell my wares, I'll use it as a store logo as well. The items pictured are of my own creation.
