Day 4 - Jack-o-Lantern

Internet has been out for a couple of days, so I'll post more later, but I wanted to go ahead and get pictures up, so you'll know I am in fact making things.

Day 3 - Hippo

Today I made this hippo.

Day 2 - Christmas Scarf

Glitter Yarn and size H crochet hook

Detail Shot of Flowers

Today's creation is a Christmas-y scarf. As I was making it, I remembered my first battle with depression when I was 13 and how Christmas -- and specifically Christmas music -- brought me out of it. It's another example of serendipity. I chose this yarn this morning because I was thinking I'd knock out a Christmas present. I wasn't expecting the trip down memory lane or the way that the nip in the air outside would feel like Christmas today. I even started humming "It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas" -- which it really isn't (does it ever look like Christmas in San Diego?), but Christmas is dawning in my heart.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart.

Day 1 - Hope

Acrylic on Foam Board

"Hope" is the thing with feathers--
That perches in the soul--
And sings the tune without the words--
And never stops--at all--

And sweetest--in the Gale--is heard--
And sore must be the storm--
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm--

I've heard it in the chillest land--
And on the strangest Sea--
Yet--never--in Extremity,
It asked a crum--of me.

--- Emily Dickinson

I begin my quest with hope--something I've been lacking of late. I actually painted this before I knew it was hope. I'm still not 100% sure it is hope, but it's living into the name. May my quest for God through creation give me hope.

Hope is born when grace breaks down the barriers of fear. Hope offers us no glib assertion that everything is going to be alright. Hope does not take away the trouble. Hope changes the impact of trouble upon us. Hope changes the way we face that which is not alright. Hope gives us the courage to struggle. Hope gives us the strength to live and the courage to endure.
-- R. Kirby Godsey "Children of Hope"
